We’d like to invite you to an evening at Objectif Exhibitions to inaugurate a shelf that will hold the beginning of a modest reference library of books:
PRAGMATISM, A NEW NAME FOR SOME OLD WAYS OF THINKING
THE SHAPE OF TIME, REMARKS ON THE HISTORY OF THINGS
A PRIMER OF VISUAL LITERACY
THE OPEN WORK
IS PRODUCED ON LOCATION
A W.A.S.T.E. OF INK (AFTER THOMAS PYNCHON)
(TRANSCRIBED) (TRANSLATED) (TRANSFIXED)
SET IN EDINBURGH, 2009
THE FIRST/LAST NEWSPAPER
These titles have been chosen for one of two reasons: either as important points of reference, which have some direct bearing on our interest in and approach to publishing; or as publications we’ve produced ourselves which bear the influence of these references. This binary classification will continue to bookend the project, serving as a template for future additions to the shelf. Over the next year or so we will invite other guests to add to the collection and speak about their choices, In this way a very specific library will be gradually assembled parallel to Objectif’s exhibition programme.
On the evening of May 3rd at 7pm, we will discuss our inaugural choices, and how these relate to a larger project-in-progress, The Serving Library. Also, a good whisky will be served.
This is a personal invitation for the event and so please do RSVP to: email@example.com
